Macon got things started right with ace pitcher Preston Sparks on the mound. Danny Harris led off the second inning by taking a fastball from Aaron Beasley out for a ride. Harris' solo shot put the Bacon up 1-0, and would prove to be the only run on the night for either team.
Sparks and Beasley were brilliant. Sparks carved through the Owls lineup, allowing only five baserunners over 6.1 innings. Beasley countered with a gem of his own, pitching into the eighth, allowing only four baserunners.
Unfortunately for Beasley, his offense was unable to string their few hits together. The closest that Forest City came to breaking through offensively was the sixth inning. Jake Rucker and Todd Elwood both singled with one out, but Kendall McGowan and Garrett Blaylock were set down by Sparks to end the inning.
Macon won their first-ever home playoff game to earn one more. Macon hosts defending champion Morehead City on Thursday in Game 1 of the Petitt Cup Championship Series. Coverage begins Thursday at 6:50pm on CPLBaseball.tv.
