Dominant pitching and hot hitting help RedWolves drop Blowfish

The Florence RedWolves defeat the Lexington County Blowfish 7-1 on Saturday night at Sparrow Stadium.

The RedWolves (13-17) jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Joe Weisenseel (Ohio) doubled home Eldrige Figueroa (Arkansas Little Rock) to grab the lead two batters into the game. After Kenny Piper (Columbia College) walked, Mitch Barrow (Indiana State) grounded out that allowed Weisenseel to score. When the throw trying to get Weisenseel at the plate bounced away to the backstop, Piper came into score and make it 3-0.

The Blowfish (11-20) would answer with their only run on a two out single by Luis Acevedo (Shorter) in the top of the second to make it 3-1 RedWolves.

Florence's pitching took it from there as Isaac Rodgers (Francis Marion) would toss three scoreless following that run in the second in route to the win. Overall, Rodgers went 5 giving up just the one run on five hits while striking out two.

The RedWolves offense would be held scoreless after the three run first until the sixth. Barrow would walk with one out and would advance to second on a passed ball before advancing to third on a wild pitch. He would later score a batter later on another wild pitch.

The offense for Florence would continue to add on as Jon Mitchell Carter (Coastal Carolina) would double home Nathan Medrano (St. Edwards) before scoring on a Figueroa double to make it 6-1.

Finally in the eighth the RedWolves would tack on one more when Brandon McIlwain (Cal) singled home Zach Durfee (Siena) to make it 7-1.

Zach Reid (West Virginia), Brady Greene (UAB), Robin Allen (Eckerd) and Jared Lembcke (North Greenville) would combine to toss four scoreless innings in relief of Rodgers to finish off the win.

RedWolves will return to action after the CPL All-Star break on Wednesday July 10 against the Macon Bacon.

Wednesday will be Yankees vs Red Sox night with gates opening at 6 pm and first pitch at 7 pm.
