A Big Sixth Inning Propels RedWolves to Win

The RedWolves score eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Martinsville Mustangs 8-3 on Friday night at Sparrow Stadium.

Martinsville (3-8) broke through the pitcher's duel in the fifth inning by pushing across two runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs added one more in the sixth to make it 3-0.

That was where the RedWolves (3-8) would answer. JT Weber (Southern Illinois) singled home Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) to end the Mustangs no-hitter attempt and make it 3-1. Reid Hardwick (Charleston Southern) then reached on an error that allowed Michael Richardson (Ohio) to make it 3-2.

Florence would tie the game and take the lead on a two-run single by Miguel Soto (Arkansas Little Rock) that allowed Weber and Hardwick to score to make it 4-3 RedWolves. After Zach Durfee (Siena) scored on a wild pitch, Jake Swartz (Duke) doubled home three to cap the scoring and make it 8-3 RedWolves.

Nathan Bock (Southeast Missouri State) and Connor Holden (Murray State) tossed the final three innings to clinch the victory for newcomer Andrew Coker (Clemson).

Coker got the start and tossed six innings allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out three.

The RedWolves will hit the road on Saturday to Macon before an off day on Sunday.

Florence will return to Sparrow Stadium on Monday for a double header with the Savanah Bananas. Monday will be Miracle League night with all Miracle League players get in free with their jersey on.

The double header will consist of two seven inning games with a 30-minute break in-between. Gates open at 5 pm with first pitch of game one at 6 pm.
