Miscues hurt RedWolves in loss

The Florence RedWolves fell 14-7 to the Gastonia Grizzlies on Wednesday night at Simms Legion Park.

 

The RedWolves (2-4) jumped out to an early lead when Alex Mills (USC Aiken) singled home Michael Richardson (Ohio) to make it 1-0. The first inning scoring would continue when Miguel Soto (Arkansas Little Rock) singled home Grey Epps (Southern Illinois) followed by Austin Ulick (Southern Illinois) being hit by a pitch that allowed Mills to score to make it 3-0. 

 

Florence would tack on two more in the inning Kenny Piper (Columbia College) scored on a balk followed by Soto scoring on a Reid Hardwick (Charleston Southern) groundout to make it 5-0. 

 

Gastonia (4-1) would answer back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first. 

 

The RedWolves would increase their lead when Epps doubled home Richardson before scoring on a single by Mills to make it 7-4. 

 

Gastonia however would score four times in the second to take the 8-7 lead they would never relinquish. 

 

The Grizzlies would add one more run in the fourth and five in the sixth to win 14-7. 

 

Ryan Huffman (VMI) took the loss in his start for the RedWolves allowing seven runs over one plus inning pitched.

 

Florence pitching would issue 10 walks while RedWolves fielders committed five errors in the loss. 

 

The RedWolves offensively would see Jake Swartz (Duke), Mills and Soto all record two hit nights.

 

The RedWolves will return home on Thursday to take on the Lexington County Blowfish. 

 

Thursday will be thirsty Thursday with $1 draft beer as well as KISS night. Come dressed as your favorite KISS member and enjoy a pregame concert by KISS tribute band UNMASKED. 

 

Gates open and concert starts at 6 pm with first pitch at 7 pm.
