Copperheads Capture Win with Explosive 8th Inning Surge

ASHEBORO, N.C. – Despite surrendering a 4-1 lead to the Owls (1-4) in the eighth, the Copperheads (4-0) responded with a five-run explosion to keep their undefeated season alive and win 6-4 Tuesday night at McCrary Park.

The Copperheads pulled ahead early, as the Owls played their fifth game in a row with a team scoring a run in the first inning.  It came off an error that allowed Dustin Baber to reach base, who was eventually knocked in for the first run of the ballgame off a Jonathan Martin double.

Both teams supplied superb pitching performances out of their starters.  The Owls' Zachary Taglieri surrendered his only run in the first inning, allowing six hits and striking out six in four innings of work.  Tyler Koch of the Copperheads put up an impressive performance as well, allowing just four hits and striking out eight in a six-inning shutout for his club.

The Owls were unable to score until the seventh inning, when Garrett Blaylock hit a two-out triple for his second hit of the ballgame.  One pitch later, Kendall McGowan hit his second homerun in as many days to put Forest City ahead for the first time.  Another two-out triple in the eighth by Foster knocked in two, putting the Owls out front 4-1.

Asheboro rallied in the eighth, turning a walk and four hits into five runs, pulling ahead for good.

Asheboro will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season at High Point-Thomasville on Thursday, a team they defeated 9-3 this past Saturday.  It will be the first part of a home-and-home series between the two clubs heading into the weekend.

Forest City hits the road tomorrow to take on the HiToms for the first time this season.  High Point-Thomasville will be looking for their first win of the 2019 campaign, while the Owls look to end a four-game skid.
