GASTONIA, NC.-- The HiToms took a 6-0 loss at the hands of the Gastonia Grizzlies to open Coastal Plain League play on Thursday night at Sims Legion Park.
After a scoreless three frames, Gastonia was able to plate the first run as Patrick Wheeler (Charlotte) gave the Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead.
Kyle King (Georgia College) was effective for Gastonia, earning the win after going seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits while striking out ten. The Grizzlies were able to break the game open in the home half of the fifth, taking advantage of a patient approach at the plate to load the bases, as they were able to build a 5-0 lead.
HPT was held to only three hits by Gastonia pitching, as they also combined to strike out 13 HiToms on Thursday night.
The HiToms return home to historic Finch Field on Friday for the CPL home opener, as they host the Asheboro Copperheads. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
