First Half of the Season Ends with 8-3 Loss to Grizzlies

Forest City, NC (30 June 2018) The first half of the season officially came to an end today with the Forest City Owls dropping their final game to the Gastonia Grizzlies 8-3 from McNair Field.

"We had our days where we streaked and days where we went on losing streaks.  I just want to see a more constant effort in the second half" said head coach Matt Reed.

The Grizzlies would get two runs in the first off an RBI single from Nolen Milton and Conner Durden would score the second run before Joey Smithers would be tagged out in a rundown between first and second base.

Gastonia would add another run after Kobe Kelton (who reached on a single after a line out to Corbin Watson at shortstop was overturned by umpire Dawson Hayre) would score on an RBI single by Edward Paparella.

Owls would add a run of their own in the 5th with an RBI single from Houston Wright, scoring Joe Vranesh.  The Grizzlies would answer with a three run home run in the 6th inning.  After scoring four runs total in the 6th, the Grizzlies would take a commanding 8-1 lead.

Forest City would score a few in the 6th and 7th with an RBI double from Vranesh in the 6th and a sacrifice fly from Kendal McGowan in the 7th but it would be all that the Owls would get as they would drop the game 8-3.

One Bright spot for the the Owls was Daniel Kite, who pitched three innings of relief and retired all nine hitters he would face.  He would record four strike outs with three coming in the top of the 9th inning.

"I know we are a good team.  I am confident that if this team starts playing our brand of baseball, we will be a threat in the second half of the season" said Reed.

The Owls still hold a 5-2 lead over the Grizzlies in the "Silver Cup" with seven more games to play in the season against Gastonia. The Owls will open up their second half of their season against the Savanna Bananas on July 2nd.  The Owls and Bananas will be treated to a firework show after the conclusion of the game.  Tickets can be purchased at forestcitybaseball.com
