Owls bats cool off, fall to the Blowfish 9-2

Forest City, NC (15 June 2018) The Forest City Owls can't get the offense going and they fall to the Lexington County Blowfish 9-2.

"A pitcher like that [Hinzman] is going to test who you are and tonight we just weren't able to hit pitches that we wanted to and hit pitches we could do damage to" said head coach Matt Reed.

The Blowfish jumped on the Owls early putting up five runs in the 4th inning off of the bat of Hunter Lipscomb and Conner Tate.

The bats would heat back up for the Blowfish in the 5th inning as they would plate four more runs thanks to a two out, 2RBI double by Christian Hamel.  Hamel would go 4-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

"We sometimes get ourselves into tough situations.  You have balls that trickle through here, trickle through there and then all of a sudden a guy shoots a gap and the big inning starts.  We have to stay without ourselves and do the quintessential things from the pitching side to have a good outing" said Reed

Brandon Dusenberry would come in and pitch great for the rest of the game however.  He would go four innings, giving up just four hits and striking out three batters.

"They [Hinzman and Drohan] started giving us mistakes but when your approach isn't what it should be, its going to open you up for more exposure" said Reed.

The Owls offense just couldn't get it going all game long as they were limited to just three hits in the game.  The first hit wouldn't come until and infield single by Joe Vranesh in the sixth inning.  The Owls had their chances however as they would strand seven batters on the base path.  The Trio of Noah Hinzman, Shane Drohan and Bo Goban would strike out eight owls batter in the 9-2 victory.

"You have to be able to adapt.  You don't necessarily have to change your approach, but you have to be able to stick with your approach so you can give yourself a chance to hit a mistake made" said Reed.

"Do I think this is a trend? No, I think we do a good job of bouncing back but we need a little bit better preparation, myself included, and if we do that we will be just fine" said Reed.

The Owls look to bounce back tomorrow against the Gastonia Grizzlies from Sims Legion Park in Gastonia NC.  You can listen to the game at mixlr.com/forest-city-owls-baseball.
