The Tobs took their sixth straight win in a 6-1 effort over the Petersburg Generals on Monday.
On Faith and Family Night, the Tobs played in front of over 800 and started quickly.
Logan Baldwin (Georgia Southern) ripped a triple to start things off in the bottom of the first. Cameron Balego (Mercyhurst) would knock him in a batter later. Balego would score in the inning too.
Meanwhile, on the bump, Jeff Thompson (Belmont Abbey) was a force. Thompson fired five full innings and accrued eight strikeouts plus the win.
Dueling for the Generals was Dwight Velarde (Eastern New Mexico) who threw four eight strikeouts as well.
The Tobs added a pair of runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Jack Larsen (UC-San Diego) and CJ Ballard (Georgia Southern) scored.
Ballard would go 3-4 in the game with a double. Not to be outdone, Balego earned three RBIs.
Baldwin plated the game’s only unearned run in the fourth to send the Tobs up 5-1 as an answer to a Tray Roberts (Armstrong State) run.
One more run from Austin Fisher (Santa Clara) would seal the deal.
The Tobs improve to 28-22 and earn third place in the East after the win and the Morehead City loss. Petersburg falls to 14-31.
Thompson’s record rises to 3-4 while Velarde takes his season’s first decision as a loss.
The Tobs are back in action for All-You-Can-Eat Tuesday tomorrow night vs. Holly Springs, looking for their seventh straight win.
