The Edenton Steamers (17-12, 1-1) had another strong showing at Historic Hicks Field. The Clams defeated the Wilson Tobs (10-21, 1-2) by a final score of 17-0 in seven innings. The rest of the game was cancelled due to lightning in the area.
It was the same old story at Historic Hicks Field in the fifth meeting of the season with the Wilson Tobs at the ballpark. Edenton jumped out early again on the Tobs. The Clams got a solo home run from Billy Wilson to take the 1-0 lead. Jamie Galazin added to the lead two batters later when he hit a two-run shot to left field to make it 3-0.
Wilson struggled to get outs in the second inning. The Tobs starter, Casey Williams (2-3) gave up five walks and two hit batters to bring home five runs in the inning. The Steamers had just one hit on a bunt single by Connor Kopach.
After a scoreless third, the Steamers added three more runs including two RBI doubles by Connor Kopach and Billy Wilson to push the lead to 11-0.
Kelvan Pilot (3-0) was terrific on the mound for Edenton. Pilot went five innings giving up just two hits while striking out three and walking two.
The Steamers would add the finishing touch in the seventh inning. Tristen Roberts was unable to record an out. He gave up five runs with four walks and giving up just one hit.
The Tobs pitchers combined to walk 14 batters tonight.
Henry Cartrett came in to finish the inning for the Tobs. However, he gave up the second hit in the inning, which was a two-run home run by Tristen Carranza to give the Steamers the 17-0 lead.
Billy Wilson had an outstanding day at the plate for the Clams. Wilson was 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Edenton is now 6-0 against Wilson at home this season.
The Teal and Black are back in action tomorrow at Peninsula. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium.
