The Edenton Steamers had six players name to the Eastern Division All-Star Team this past Friday. The Teal and Black will send Jason Agresti (C), James Battley (OF), Jamie Galazin (OF), Carmen Giampetruzzi (LHP), Connor Kopach (2B) and Billy Wilson (OF).
Anthony Maselli (Boston College) will be a candidate in the fan voting that will happen starting Monday, July 3 at 12 p.m. (noon) and run through Tuesday, July 4 at 12 p.m. (noon), with an announcement coming later that day.
Jason Agresti (Binghamton University) finds his way to the 2017 All-Star Game after leading the CPL in RBIs for most of the season. The right-handed hitting catcher has totaled 22 RBIs this year to go along with five home runs at the plate. Agresti also has 44 total bases which is second best on the club.
James Battley (University of Illinois-Springfield) is coming to the All-Star Game after playing and starting in all 27 games for Edenton this season. The Zion, IL native is hitting .336 with 21 RBIs and 14 stole bases. He is second on the team in both categories during the campaign. Battley is tied for the Coastal Plain League lead and team lead in hits with 36. The Steamers’ outfielder also leads the CPL in runs scored with 24 runs this season.
Jamie Galazin (St John’s University) has had a standout year for the Clams since joining the team after the NCAA Regional. The Langhorne, PA native leads the Steamers in batting average with a .377 average. He also leads the club in slugging percentage at .697. The right-handed outfielder has 11 stolen bases and 13 RBIs on the season to add to his solid performance at the plate.
Carmen Giampetruzzi (Boston College) was the only pitcher from Edenton named to the 2017 All-Star Game. The southpaw has had a very successful season out of the back end on the bullpen for the Clams. He has a 1-0 record with a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. The Manchester, NH native has posted an excellent strikeout to walk ration with 24 strikeouts to just four walks this season. Giampetruzzi also leads the CPL in saves with five.
Connor Kopach (Southern Illinois University) will come to the Eastern Division All-Star Team after a lot of production at the plate for Edenton. The shortstop is hitting .353 with 16 RBIs, six home runs and 16 stolen bases. The right-handed bat also has a .409 on-base percentage to go along with a .588 slugging percentage and 60 total bases. Kopach is the league-leader in the CPL in stolen bases and total bases. He was a part of the CPL Select All-Star team and went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored in the 10-0 win over the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
Billy Wilson (Loyola Marymount University) was named a 2017 CPL All-Star after also being selected as a member of the CPL Select Team. Wilson is hitting .321 this season with 16 RBIs, seven home runs and a .667 slugging percentage. Wilson is third in the CPL in slugging percentage and leads the league in home runs. He sits fifth in the Coastal Plain League with a .454 on-base percentage for the Steamers.
