Sharks Survive Sea of Pink

Updated July 21 2016

WILSON, N.C.- The Tobs painted the park pink for breast cancer awareness on Thursday night, but fell to the Wilmington Sharks.

In front of a crowd of about 1,700, the Tobs fell behind 3-0 in the third. Matt Meeder (Mercer), Clark Scolamiero (South Carolina), and Mark Donadio (Fordham) all scored in the inning. The latter two scored on a two-RBI double from Alec Bohm (Wichita State).

Jack Larsen (UC San Diego) scored on a run walked in, but the Tobs stranded the bases loaded in the fourth.

The play of the game proved to be a two-run shot from Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) that gave the Sharks a 6-1 lead. The homer came with two outs after Scolamiero had crossed.

Wilson would inch closer on a CJ Ballard (Georgia Southern) run scored, but that is as far as the Tobs would get.

Wilson stranded the bases loaded twice and left 11 runners aboard, six of whom were in scoring position.

Zack Kelly (Newberry) swallows the loss (2-3) while Shelton Perkins took the win (1-0). The Tobs are a tidy 21-20 while the Sharks advance to 26-26. The two teams play tomorrow from Wilmington.
