The Tobs fell at the hands of the Holly Springs Salamanders by a count of 6-0 in Wilson on Wednesday.
On Fitness Night presented by The Wilson Family Y, the Tobs seemed unfit to do battle against J.T. Rogoszewki (North Carolina) and the Salamanders.
Holly Springs plated three runs, all earned, in the top of the first. They would add another in the second inning making it 4-0 when Drew Butler (Campbell).
Starter Zack Kelly (Newberry) was chassed after 3.2 innings and ended up allowing five runs, all earned and took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the year.
Meanwhile, Rogoszewski bolstered his resume with a six-inning, two-hit performance. Rogoszewski struck out six Tobs and improves to 4-1 with the win.
Wilson never reached third base in the game and allowed one more run when Devin Ruiz (UNC-Greensboro) scored to make it 6-0.
The Tobs stranded nine runners and only had three hits in the loss.
Wilson is now 15-16 and holding a half-game lead on the surging Edenton Steamers for the final playoff spot in the East. Meanwhile, the Salamanders are 2-0 in the second half and 11-17 overall after the win.
The Tobs head to Asheboro to take on top-of-the-West Asheboro tomorrow from McCrary Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
On Friday, the Tobs return home for the BB&T Friday 500 and Mascot Mania as part of Slugger’s Birthday.
