The Wilson Tobs returned home on Thursday to face the Petersburg Generals and scored a 14-4 win off the Gens to earn their way back into the playoff picture.
On Bojangles Sportsman Night, the Tobs hosted 1710 fans decked in their favorite outdoors attire. However, it was Petersburg who drew first blood and scored on a Ryan Cox (Kutztown) sac fly RBI.
Wilson would answer when Logan Baldwin (Georgia Southern), Jimmy Latona (Mercyhurst) and Ryan Cleveland (Georgia Southern) all scored in the bottom of the third.
Chase Simmons (Lubbock Christian) launched a homer in the fourth inning to tie the game for Petersburg, but the tie was short-lived.
The Tobs offense burst forth with production in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on three hits to make it 8-3.
The scoreboard would only light up further as Andrew Webster (Barton) blasted a ball well over 400 feet to almost dead center to make it 10-3.
Wilson proceeded to add four more to total their 14. Tyler Howsley (UC-San Diego) found himself in scoring position, but was the only player not to score. Chad Frazier (Concord) scored, but was the only player not to have a hit.
Rutty Jones (Furman, 6.0 IP, 4K) earned the win to improve to 2-0. Michael Kammarer (Kutztown) swallows the loss to fall to 0-3.
After Edenton’s loss to Morehead City, the Tobs, now 25-22, are locked in the final playoff spot in the East. The Steamers and Tobs face each other on the 30th of July with a lot on the line.
Wilson finishes the last leg of a home-and-home with Petersburg tomorrow at 7:05.
