Clams Take Game 1, Rain Takes Game 2

Updated July 16 2016

The Edenton Steamers took game one of a doubleheader against the Petersburg Generals, 3-1, game two was postponed due to rain. Edenton (7-2, 19-18) jumped above the .500 line for the first time since June 14, while Petersburg (3-4, 11-22) snapped a three-game winning streak against the Clams.

Alex Britt grabbed the win for the Steamers. Britt (1-0) shut out the Generals over two innings while allowing one hit and one walk while collecting one strikeout. Sam Beattie picked up his second save in as many nights, striking out the side in the 10th after surrendering a leadoff single.

Nick Spadafino took the loss for Petersburg. Spadafino (1-3) picked up where he left off before the rain delay last week, hurling all 10 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and two walks to eight strikeouts.

Game one picked up with the Generals at the plate in the bottom of the third and the game tied at one, and the pitchers took over immediately, holding both squads scoreless until the 10th.

The Steamers broke the tie in the top of the inning. Bobby Schuman was hit by a pitch with two outs to start the rally. Mitchell Price knocked a single past third base to put two on. Trey Hair put Edenton ahead with a two-run double to run the score to 3-1.

Game two saw the Teal and Black take a 1-0 advantage in the top of the fourth inning before rain forced the postponement of the game.

The Edenton Steamers end the week with a home tilt against the Peninsula Pilots on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit
