CPL Alums, Narron and Diamond, Honored
RALEIGH, N.C. - Former Outer Banks Daredevil, Sam Narron, and Martinsville Mustang, Scott Diamond won Minor League Pitcher of the Week awards for their respective leagues for the week of April 21-27.
Narron, a member of the Southern League's Huntsville Stars, took a perfect game on April 23rd into the eighth inning as he retired the first 23 batters of the Mississippi Braves lineup. The 6-7 200-pound left-hander ended the night giving up just two hits and one earned run in a complete game win for the Stars.
A member of the 2000 Outer Banks Daredevils, Narron was drafted in the 15th round by the Texas Rangers in 2002 after a successful career at East Carolina. In 2004, he made his Major League debut, with the Rangers, giving up four earned runs in 2 2/3 innings while collecting a loss in his only MLB appearance. Now in Milwaukees organization, Narron is 5-1 with a 2.92 ERA and 19 strikeouts with Huntsville.
Meanwhile, Diamond pitched 12 innings of work for the South Atlantic League's Rome Braves during the week picking up two wins for the Low-A franchise. In the first game, Diamond baffled Savannahs hitters for six innings giving up eight hits and one earned run, and collecting the win. In his second start, also versus Savannah, the 6-3, 190-pound southpaw pitched a shutout while giving up four hits in another winning effort. For the week, Diamond went 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and gathered 12 total strikeouts for his first two career victories.
The former Binghamton Bearcat played for the Martinsville Mustangs in 2007 and was signed by the Atlanta Braves on August 30th that same year. For the Mustangs, Diamond went 6-2 with a 2.55 ERA while racking up 72 strikeouts en route to his second consecutive Pitcher of the Year team award for Martinsville. In his first year at Rome, Diamond has posted a 3-0 record with a 2.43 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings of work this year.
