Thundering Herd Heading To Petersburg
Catcher Kevin Shackelford from Marshall will be playing for the Generals this summer.
PETERSBURG, VA. - The Petersburg Generals have announced that a member of the Marshall University Thundering Herd, Kevin Shackelford, will be added to the roster.

Shackelford, 6-5, 190, is a freshman catcher who resides in Charlotte, N.C. In high school Kevin was named the Perfect Game Top Prospect. His defensive prowess in high school was a big strength, allowing just one stolen base and committed only one pass ball from behind the dish. In three years at Providence High School, Shackelford helped his team to a 63-18 record.

This true freshman has seen some action behind the dish this season for the Thundering Herd. Shackelford is playing behind a senior catcher for the Thundering Herd, and comes in as a defensive replacement in the late innings.

Shackelford will be no stranger to another Generals catcher, Ben Heath from Penn State. Shackelford and Heath have played together on the same travel team for the past three years. These two guys will be playing together one more year as Shackelford and Heath suit up for the Generals this summer.

"We are excited to have Shackelford on our roster this year," said assistant coach Ryan Leary. "He is a big player who can be a big target for our pitchers. We have heard that Shackelford is a great defensive catcher who can block balls and has a strong arm. Shackelford is a great addition to our roster who can provide solid defense behind the plate and could be an offensive threat at the plate."

The Petersburg Generals are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its twelfth season, the Coastal Plain League features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
