Owls Sign A Pair From Walters State
FOREST CITY, N.C. - The Owls have signed a pair of standouts from the junior college ranks to play in the team's inaugural season in Forest City. Nick Fuller and Will Skinner come to the Owls from across the state line where both play for the traditional junior college powerhouse Walters State. The duo look to provide strong depth on the mound as well as in the outfield for the Owls this summer.
Fuller has a lot of major league potential and will be competing for a spot in the Owls starting rotation. The 6-1, 185-pound sophomore is a Marietta, Georgia, native who has seen significant playing time during his second season with the Senators. During the early stages in 2008, Fuller leads the teams pitching staff with 49 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work. He has allowed 22 earned runs on 41 hits and is 5-1 on the season. During his high school career, Fuller was selected as an AFLAC All-American and was drafted in the third round of the 2006 Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Will Skinner has fared well in his freshman year and will provide a spark for the Owls lineup. The 5-11, 190-pound freshman comes from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he played for Tennessee powerhouse Riverdale High School. In 21 games played this season with Walters State, he is batting a solid .351 on the season. Skinner has posted 20 hits in 57 at-bats and has eight extra base hits on the season along with 15 runs batted in.
Walters State is currently 14-2 in the Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association and was ranked 10th in the pre-season National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 poll. The Senators are known for their strong performance on the field after capturing three national titles in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
