Wilson Returning as Copperheads Head Coach

Californian Donnie Wilson will be returning for a fourth season as head coach of the Asheboro Copperheads in 2013.
Wilson, who played collegiately at Western Carolina and served one year as an assistant with the Copperheads before assuming the head coaching chores in 2010, has guided the team into the playoffs in each of his three previous seasons.
“We’re delighted to announce Donnie’s return for another season as our head coach,” said Copperheads General Manager David Camp. “He has done an excellent job both on and off the field and has become very attached to the Asheboro community. He loves coming here and remains committed, just like everyone else in this organization, to bringing a Coastal Plain League championship to Asheboro.”
“It will be an honor and a privilege to be back for my fifth summer in Asheboro,” said Wilson. “I want to thank everyone in the organization for this opportunity. Asheboro has become a second home to me.”
Wilson recently began a new job as an assistant at NCAA Division II Cal State-Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif., a Los Angeles suburb. He had spent the previous four years as an assistant at College of the Sequoias, a junior college where he also played prior to moving on to Western Carolina.
The Copperheads are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 57 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
