Keith Morrisroe delivered a heroic two-RBI single in the top of the 9th inning as the Tobs stormed back to down the Steamers 3-2 in the season opener for both teams. The base knock by the junior from Concord University capped off a 4-for-5 night at the dish before a crowd of 897 at Hicks Field.

Drew Bailey (1-0) from Concord University earned the victory in relief for Wilson, while Mark Montgomery (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Samuel Davis came on and nailed down the victory for his first save of the season.

Down 2-1 going to the top of the 9th inning, the Tobs began the comeback with a leadoff walk by Michael Zeblo. A sacrifice bunt attempt by Ryan Faison misfired when Zeblo was tagged out trying to advance to third.

A strikeout by Chad Hunter left the Tobs with one last hope. Michael Blanchard kept the game alive with a clutch double that advanced Faison to third. Morrisroe then followed his single off a 2-2 pitch by Montgomery.

After five scoreless innings, the Tobs finally broke through with a run in the sixth of a fielder’s choice by Ryan Daughtry that scored Nick Aranas from third base.

Edenton struck back, however, with runs in the seventh and eighth to take the lead into pivotal inning.

Wilson kicks off its home opener tomorrow night by welcoming the Outer Banks Daredevils to Historic Fleming Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 eastern. Fans will receive a 2010 Tobs magnet schedule.

The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 14th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
