Team Cole and Associates to Manage Martinsville Mustangs
The City of Martinsville announced that Team Cole and Associates will take over operations of the Martinsville Mustangs for the 2013 season.
Team Cole & Associates operates the Coastal Plain League’s Gastonia Grizzlies and Forest City Owls, which are owned by Ken Silver. Team Cole & Associates president Jesse Cole will become managing partner of the Mustangs, while Silver will become vice president. Cole plans to build his staff by hiring a new general manager and a director of fun. Matt Duffy will be back again as the head coach of the Mustangs.
“I’ve seen this group work over the past few years and Gastonia has been the best baseball atmosphere in the CPL,” said Duffy. “I’m excited to see the ideas this group will bring to Martinsville. I believe they will revive this organization right away.”
Duffy has already completed most of his roster for the 2013 season after making the playoffs for the first time in 2012.
“We are tremendously excited to become a big part of the Martinsville community,” said Cole. “Martinsville has a great history of baseball and we look forward to building on that and adding our circus-type atmosphere that has become so popular in Gastonia and Forest City.”
“We believe in creating a show at our ballparks that is completely unique to the sporting industry and providing unparalleled customer service. We are known for our dancing players, dunk tanks, amazing giveaways and crazy food items with our teams and we hope to bring the same exciting atmosphere in Martinsville.”
Cole, who started out as the general manager of the Grizzlies, has helped lead the Gastonia franchise to being named the CPL’s Organization of the Year in 2012, as well as winning the CPL Petitt Cup Championship in 2011. Additionally, the Forest City Owls, under Silver’s ownership, have been named the CPL’s Organization of the Year twice (2008 and 2010) and won the CPL Championship in back-to-back years in 2009 and 2010.
In 2012, both the Gastonia Grizzlies and Forest City Owls finished first and second in the CPL in regular season attendance, and sixth and seventh respectively in overall regular season attendance throughout all summer-collegiate baseball leagues in the country with over 115,000 fans.
Since forming Team Cole and Associates in 2011, Cole has been a feature speaker at national conferences and at league meetings throughout the country. Cole has also been honored as the Gaston County Business Person of the Year and named an honorable mention for Executive of the Year by Ballpark Digest.
“The fans will be in for some action this year on the field and off,” said Duffy. “You never know what Jesse has up his sleeve for promotions. I’m looking forward to seeing some new stuff and working alongside this group.”
