Arrowood Earns League-Best Sixth Win over Martinsville

Forest City right-handed pitcher Ryan
Arrowood(Appalachian State) tossed seven strong innings and struck out
10 for his league-leading sixth win as the Owls bounced back from
their first second half loss with a 4-1 victory over the Martinsville
Mustangs on Thursday night at McNair Field.
Arrowood, who grew up nearby Forest City in Rutherfordton and
graduated from R.S. Central High School, had another stellar
performance in front of 3,262 fans, the largest crowd at McNair Field
this season.
Arrowood(6-0) allowed just one run on four hits and walked two to pick
up a victory against his fifth different opponent of the season and
his 10 strikeouts were a season-high. Arrowood has allowed three
earned runs or less in all six starts.
Josh Biggers(Francis Marion) pitched a scoreless eighth and Robbie
Andrews(Virginia Commonwealth) closed the game out for his ninth save
in nine chances and is tied for the league-lead in saves. Martinsville
had runners at the corners with two outs, but Andrews was able to
retire pinch-hitter John Malloy on a lineout to first base to secure
the win. Andrews struck out two batters in the ninth and has fanned 15
in 11 1/3 innings. He has yet to give up a run or walk on the season.
Forest City improved to 26-4 and have won two of three to open the
second half of play. Martinsville dropped to a league-worst 7-24 and
are on a three-game slide. The Owls have won all eight meetings of the
season with the Mustangs, with all contests decided by four runs or
less.
Wade Moore(N.C.State) went 2-for-5 with a run scored and stolen base.
Seth Baldwin(North Carolina) scored two runs and recorded his first
RBI of the season. Pratt Maynard(N.C. State) picked up two hits and an
RBI while Andrew Ciencin(N.C. State) reached base three times and
drove in a run.
The Owls batted around in a three-run third inning to jump ahead for
good. Moore hit a leadoff single to right, stole second, and scored on
a Baldwin RBI double down the right field line. Maynard followed with
an RBI double to left-center to plate Baldwin to extend the lead.
Ciencin added a bases loaded RBI single to right to score Maynard to
put the Owls ahead 3-0.
The Owls added a run in the fourth after Baldwin scored from second on
an errant throw by shortstop Bryan Condotta.
Martinsville scored their lone run of he game in the sixth on an RBI
single to center by second baseman Dylan Holton.
Mustangs right-hander Chris Briere(1-5) took the loss, allowing three
earned runs on seven hits in five innings.
Forest City will play the next two games on the road against the
Asheboro Copperheads and Thomasville Hi-Toms on Friday and Saturday
