2009 CPL Rawlings Players of the Week for Week Eight

The Coastal Plain League announced Monday that Forest City’s Konstantine Diamaduros was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Edenton’s Keith Couch and Fayetteville’s Ryan Daniel were tabbed Rawlings Co-Pitchers of the Week for week eight of action (July 22nd-July 26th).
Diamaduros, a 6-1, 190 pound freshman at Wofford, started all four of the Owls games this week, accumulating a .500 batting average. He had five runs off of seven hits, including one double, one triple, one home run and four RBIs. He totaled 13 bases and had a .929 slugging percentage for the 41-7 Owls.
Throughout the season thus far, this Spartanburg, South Carolina native, has the highest batting average in the league at .382. He has 58 hits, including 10 doubles, five triples, four home runs and 38 RBIs. He has been a steady performer for the West Division leading Owls and has totaled a stellar 90 bases this season. Diamaduros’ was previously named Hitter of the Week in week three of the season.
On the mound, Couch was crucial for Edenton. In his only appearance for the week he pitched his way to a complete game shutout and a 0.00 ERA, only allowing six hits. The right-handed pitcher, a 6-3, 200 pound sophomore at Adelphi, pitched four strikeouts in his nine innings.
Furthermore, Couch has pitched his way to a 2.79 ERA this season with a four-and-four record in 10 appearances, nine of which were starts. In his 61 innings pitched, he has had three complete games and has struck out 44 batters and allowed only 19 earned runs.
In Fayetteville, Daniel, was strong for the SwampDogs with his perfect 0.00 ERA. The 6-0, 195 pound junior from Kansas State pitched eight innings, striking out four and allowing no runs in his only appearance on the week.
This season, the right-handed Colorado native has performed well. He has a 4.48 ERA and a one-and-two record after four appearances and 21 innings pitched for the SwampDogs. He has seven strikeouts and allowed 27 hits, yet has held batters to a .297 batting average against him.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league, heading into its 13th season. Featuring 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, the CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
