The Edenton Steamers defeated the Gastonia Grizzlies to be named 2015 CPL Petitt Cup Champions. Will the Steamers repeat in 2016 or will the CPL feature a new champion? Be sure to follow all the action this August. The 2016 Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Playoffs begin August 10. Round 1 and Round 2 are single-elimination rounds occurring on August 10 and 12 respectively. The Championship Round will be August 14-16. Will Shepherd (Jr., Liberty) Peninsula

Shepherd batted .571 over six starts for the Pilots. He totaled 12 hits with three doubles and 15 total bases for a .714 slugging percentage. The 5’10, 195-pound outfielder also showed an ability to get on-base, finishing the week with an even .600 on-base percentage, while also stealing three bases and scoring five runs.

Jake Rudnicki (Jr., Ohio) Florence

On the mound, Rudnicki pitched a seven-inning complete game for the RedWolves versus Lexington County in the first game of a double header on June 25. The right-hander got the win, allowing only two hits while walking one and striking out six for a .100 opponent’s batting average.
